Constructions
There are 4 constructions of shirt garters
Straight
One end attaches to one’s sock and the other to the tail of one’s shirt. It helps to both keeps one’s socks up and one’s shirt in. Some use only 2 straps in front. Some use 4 straps, 2 in front and 2 in back.
3-way, “Y” construction
”I” portion attached to one’s sock and “V” portion secures to the tail of one’s shirt, one end in front, the other in back.
Stirrup Construction
The loop at the bottom wraps around one’s foot, before putting on one’s shoes. The “V” at the top attaches to the front and back of one’s shirt. This construction helps one’s shirt only. It does not keep one’s sock’s up.
Tie Garter
Keeps one’s necktie from flying up, or falling into something you are leaning over.
Top buttonhole is secured to the shirt button that falls above the labels on one’s necktie. Tie garter is then slipped through tie label, or loop, if your tie has one. Bottom buttonhole is then secured to the shirt button that falls below the tie label or loop.
Sleeve Garter
Keeps shirt sleeves from falling further down the arm than one would like.
One use for sleeve garters is to even out where one’s shirt cuffs falls, and how much cuff will show beyond one’s jacket sleeves. If the sleeves of a person’s shirt are too long, one can use both garters in the set to adjust them. If one’s shirt is sized properly for an off the rack shirt, but one’s arms are two different lengths, then one garter will be used to even out where the cuffs fall.
Another use for arm garters is to keep shirt cuffs above the point they are meant to fall in order to keep them from getting soiled or impress on the people one is interacting with that there is, in fact, nothing up one’s sleeve.
Place garter on forearm on top of shirt and ease up arm until reaching bicep, above elbow. Pull shirt from above garter and blouse out until shirt cuff reaches desired position on forearm.
